Jack Baldus is a qualified pianist and has been playing piano for 15 years, 8 of which have been professionally.
Originally from Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, he began to learn the piano at the age of 7. After he gained the highest grades possible in Classical, Rock (Trinity Board) and Jazz studies as well as Grade 8 theory, he moved to Leeds to study for a degree at ‘Leeds College of Music’ focusing on Jazz and Popular Music.
Whilst at LCM he was awarded the prize for Outstanding Achievement In Music Performance. During his years of study, he took part in countless performances in the prestigious concert hall to crowds of over 500, for showcases at end of semester recitals, and extra curricular performances in the LCM ‘twighlight concert’ season.
As well as performing in the College itself, Jack quickly began to gain residencies across central Leeds playing solo jazz piano in many restaurants including the Hilton, Mio Modo, the Leeds Roundhouse theatre and many more, as well as Browns and Pizza Express restaurant in Covent Garden in central London, and presently in top restaurants and bars in Bristol centre. He has been a session musician for the past 3 years for many musicians all around the UK for various signed artists with a wide range of genre including R&B, Rock, acoustic, Latin and Hip-Hop.
He has performed with many well-known/famous artists such as Omar Puente, Chunky Butt Funky, Amp Fiddler, The Yellow Jackets, The Sugar Hill Gang and many others. Jack has hosted (and still continues to do so) many Jazz/Funk jam nights in Leeds and Bristol, for instance The Wardrobe, Elbow Rooms, Santiago's in central Leeds and The Junction, The Bank, Illusions, The Brass Pig, Bar Humbug and Mr. Wolfs in Bristol. In his spare time, Jack has stage managed at Bristol Festival and has also managed live music bookings at Mr. Wolfs and The Bank - Two of Bristol's premier live music venues. Between the years of 2007 and 2009, Jack also created and organised his own free music festival in his home town of Ross-on-Wye, which attracted over 5000 attendees in August 2009, which showcased internationally renowned artists alongside many of the best unsigned acts across England. As well as performing as a solo artist and composer, Jack also performs and composes on a full time basis with 2 professional bands from Bristol;
Laid Blak described as Urban Reggae Heavyweights and are taking live music venues and the underground club scene by storm.
Zang Tang a Jazz/Funk/House music 6 piece which Jack is the sole composer of, who have performed at top festivals around the country who have been described as a sleek, super-tight, ultra funky act which cant stop you getting to the dancefloor.
Since 2009, after inheriting a countless number of his favourite Jazz/Funk records which inspired him to become a professional musician, Jack began to DJ from home, and rapidly gained regular DJ slots in top Bristol venues such as Sublime, The Brass Pig, Mr Wolfs and top retail store My Yard, under the name of ‘Fingerz’; playing Funk/Soul/Disco/Rare Groove vinyl.

Jack has been teaching on a one-to-one basis since 2007. During his studies time in Leeds he began to tutor jazz piano to youngsters and continues to do so on a weekly basis in Bristol. Jack specialises in teaching Jazz, however can teach a variety of styles such as Classical/Rock/Latin as well as Classical/Jazz theory. He teaches from home or can travel to his students (depending on distance).
